Have you ever considered a home water filtration system? Today I’m sharing my thoughts in this honest Culligan Aqua-Cleer review… Be sure to scroll down for a video that will allow you to SEE the difference for yourself!
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Culligan International. All opinions are 100% mine.
Do you know what’s in your water? While I don’t know exactly what’s in my water, I’ve known that our city water is awful since we moved into our home five years ago. And I’ve become increasingly more concerned over the years as appliance after appliance needed to be repaired or replaced — the dishwasher, the refrigerator ice maker, the washing machine, and so on. Obviously the common denominator here is WATER!
So when Culligan stopped by to test our water a few weeks ago (did you know they’ll do basic in-home water testing for FREE?!), I wasn’t surprised to be told that our water failed based on EPA recommended standards. However, just how badly it failed was slightly horrifying… They checked both the total dissolved solids (TDS) content and the hardness, and we received a big fat F for both. High quality water contains a TDS of 50 or below — ours clocked in at 390. And anything over 10 grains of calcium carbonate per gallon is considered extreme hardness — ours is rated at 12 grains. Yikes!!!
Buy A Filter Or Be A Filter
I was left wondering how the city could justify supplying such poor quality water. But the Culligan rep told me he sees it every single day. Water treatment plants are responsible for killing any bacteria that can make us sick, typically with chlorine. But they’re not required to filter these “dead” particles out of the water. Furthermore, public water systems are practically ancient, with breaks, leaks and corrosion that all leach into the water after treatment.
The rep broke it down for me like this: “We’re not in the business of trying to scare consumers. But basically, you can either BUY a filter or BE a filter.” As stomach turning as that is, it makes total sense, right?
Culligan Aqua-Cleer Review
Which is how I found myself mere days later greeting a Culligan installation technician on my doorstep. We opted for the Culligan Aqua-Cleer Reverse Osmosis System, which is an under sink reverse osmosis (RO) system that can be customized to the specific water needs of a household through the various filter options and tank size. I won’t go into all of the product specs — you can find those on the Culligan website if you’re curious.
I’ll just say this: Our water went from craptastic to AMAZING in the span of 90 minutes!
Now, you might be picturing the older style filtered water sink dispensers that require an additional faucet — not very aesthetically pleasing… The AquaCleer system is designed to work with the faucet that’s currently on your sink via what I like to call our “magic button,” aka the ClearLink Pro. The Culligan ClearLink Pro is a wireless control system that allows you to turn the filtered water on and off on your main faucet, making it easy to wash vegetables with your sprayer, fill pots for cooking, or simply enjoy a glass of filtered water. And it’s actually really cute! Culligan has different finishes to match your sink and/or faucet.
Plus the Aqua-Cleer system can be looped into the existing water line for your refrigerator. Meaning you can dispense amazing clean RO water right from your refrigerator! And it makes the most amazingly clear ice cubes (because there are so few impurities left in the water). This line is always on, so you can dispense filtered water at will — and it totally eliminates the need to replace any water filters currently installed in your refrigerator. In fact, we installed the bypass plug to remove ours altogether.
Is A Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Worth It?
In short, YES! But here’s why. It’s not a stretch to say we’ve spent thousands of dollars on bottled water over the past five years. Seriously, we could have paid for an Aqua-Cleer system several times over. And that bottled water? Well, it may or may not be any better than our regular tap water, because the bottled water industry is not highly regulated. And don’t even get me started on all of that plastic…
Aside from that, the biggest seller for me is how much better my food tastes now. You see, I was still mostly using our tap water for cooking, because using bottled water was cost prohibitive. Now that we’ve switched to using RO filtered water, you can both SEE and TASTE the difference.
Did you know that the water grocery stores spray on fresh produce is reverse osmosis filtered? It’s how they keep their produce looking bright and clean until purchased. Using RO filtered water on my fruits and veggies at home means they stay fresh longer. My coffee and tea taste better, and my pasta is less sticky and tastes amazing. I really can’t get over the difference!
Culligan Aqua-Cleer Tea Test
Check out this short video for a demo of the Culligan Aqua-Cleer system. I brewed the same orange pekoe tea using my Aqua-Cleer RO filtered water and regular tap water, and you can see the results for yourself.
Can you see the difference? Which one would YOU rather drink?!?!
My only regret? Not investigating our options for our water more thoroughly years ago. Culligan has rental and payment plans that are more than affordable. Honestly, they’re far less expensive than what we were previously spending on bottled water each month. Now that we’ve got our drinking water taken care of, we’ll definitely be reaching out to them for a whole house water softener later this summer!
