I’ve had the good fortune to test out many Dyson products over the years, and I’m a HUGE fan of their vacuums and fans. Yes, they’re on the pricey side, but the quality (IMHO) just can’t be beat…
So when Walmart asked if I’d be interested in trying the new exclusive Dyson V6 Slim vacuum, well, you can bet I was all over that!
What’s so Special About the Dyson V6 Slim?
The Dyson V6 Slim is the latest in Dyson’s handheld vacuum line. As I mentioned, it’s a Walmart exclusive offering, with all of the versatility and suction power that you’d expect from a Dyson product. Light and easy to maneuver between high, low and hard-to-reach spaces, the V6 Slim does it all — without the hassle of a cord. Boasting 20 minutes of fade-free run time, you just simply remove it from the docking station and go!
How Does the Dyson V6 Perform?
If you’re wondering how does the Dyson V6 Slim perform, I can tell you that I’m totally impressed. Having owned a couple of different handheld models previously, I had pretty high expectations going into testing the V6, and it didn’t let me down one bit.
Maneuverability –The Dyson V6 has the trademark ball feature on the head, which allows it to pivot and turn in any direction, which means it can easily pick up all of those crumbs left beneath my kitchen table after every meal. It’s smooth and effortless and even my kids can push it. In fact, I’ve only had to vacuum with it personally a handful of times, because my kids argue over who gets to use it!
Suction — The Dyson V6 really excels in the suction department. There isn’t a speck of dirt or dust left behind, and the attachments make it easy to get in all of the cracks and crevices that my other floor vacuums can’t touch.
Charging and Use Time — The tradeoff for having a cordless, handheld vacuum is that it won’t run forever on a single charge. However, the Dyson V6 performs surprisingly well in this area. Depending on whether you’re using the motorized cleaner head or the combination accessory tool, you’ll get 16 or 20 minutes of run time respectively. The V6 also has a boost mode that will run for 6 minutes, but I rarely need to use this feature. A full charge can be achieved in just 3.5 hours, which means it’s pretty much always ready for use (as long as my kids remember to dock it when finished).
Convenience — I love that the V6 comes with two different attachments that allow it to quickly and easily convert from a floor vac to a hand vac. The charging station is phenomenal. Everything has a place, and it’s easy to place the vacuum back on the charger after each use, so it’s always ready to go when I need it.
So are there any drawbacks to the Dyson V6? Well, it is a bit pricey at $289… However, right now it’s on rollback at Walmart for $259 through Labor Day! Considering that I use it daily (often multiple times a day), it’s definitely worth it in my book.
A Few Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Dyson Handheld
- Empty the clear bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level. I actually empty mine every time I use it to keep the cyclone clean and prevent any clogs. The combination tool works great to remove any dirt that might get stuck in the cyclone holes.
- Wash the filter regularly. I try to remember to wash it monthly, but if I’ve been using it more frequently, I may do it a little more often. Simply rinse it out and then squeeze and twist it to remove any excess water. Let it dry completely before replacing it in the vacuum.
- Clean the brush bar regularly. Both my girls and I have long hair, so a fair amount of it gets stuck in the brush bar on the motorized cleaner head. As needed, I remove the brush bar and untangle any hair, carefully cutting it away if necessary.
- Return the V6 to the charging station between uses. Yeah, this seems like a no-brainer, but it’s still something that I’m trying to ingrain into my kids!
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Dyson V6 Slim product to other moms. It’s made cleaning up after my kids a breeze — and believe me, they really know how to make a mess!
