We’ve been doing the OBX beach vacation thing for 5 years now, and I finally feel like I’ve got the whole coordinating/packing/meal-planning thing for our trip under control. So much that I was actually able to take a fun 2-day whirlwind trip to Des Moines 3 days before we left without having a near panic attack.
And to top it all off, on a whim I decided to see just how far we could stretch our freezer and pantry goods before we left — which left both pretty empty, but at the same time gave us plenty of extra wiggle room in our vacation budget. The downside is we were dangerously low on many of our favorite staples, so I left for vacation knowing I’d need to make a trip to Costco soon upon arriving home to replenish our stockpile. NOT something I really wanted hanging over my head while I’m having fun in the sun, especially knowing the nearest Costco isn’t super convenient and the weekend traffic can be a real drag…
Google Express To The Rescue
Luckily, I was introduced to Google Express shortly before we departed, and I totally had one of those lightbulb moments… In case you’re not familiar with this wonderful new service, you can easily place orders at some of your favorite local stores (think Target, Walgreens, Whole Foods, Costco!!! and more), and they’ll be delivered to your doorstep as quickly as the very same day! So I figured I’d try it out while were on vacation to order a few of the most crucial necessities, thinking they’d be delivered the day we were coming home…
First off, there is a membership fee for the service — a very reasonable $10 monthly cost. The monthly membership gets you free shipping when you meet a store’s minimum purchase, typically about $15. Now, I’d spend at least $10 driving round trip to my Costco, and even if I didn’t, I’m pretty sure I’d save that alone with the impulse buys I cut out by placing an order online. So $10 a month is NBD in my book!
Speaking of deal, I have an exclusive offer for you to receive a free 6-month Google Express membership AND free shipping AND $15 off your first order… Stay with me!
Placing my order was super simple and easy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that almost all of my favorite organic products were available for online purchase (conventional products, too!), all at the current in store price.
That’s right! There’s no padding in pricing to make up for the cost of shipping. And I say “almost” only because cold grocery service is not available in my area yet, but you better believe that as soon as it is, I won’t be going out of my way to drive to Costco ever. again.
As soon as I placed my order, it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders and I could relax. I knew that I wouldn’t have to dash off to the store as soon as we got home to get bread and peanut butter for lunches, because it would be waiting on our porch. And raisins for snacking, too!
Which meant that I could spend all of our vacation hours from sunrise…
To moonrise (how gorgeous is that?!?)…
Being fully in the moment with this crazy bunch… We played in the surf, swam with the dolphins, combed the beach for shells, ran with the wild mustangs, ate too much, drank too much, and went to bed with sand in our toes and salt in in our hair.
And then we woke up at dawn every day to do it all over again…
A Treat For Myself + A Treat For YOU
I’m always sad to leave the beach behind when our week is up, but I was even more so this year because we had such a fantastic time. I really wanted to capture that magic and take it home for the other 358 days of the year. So I did the next best thing — I decided that I’m going to gift a Google Express membership to myself. Replacing a good portion of my regular, repeated grocery trips will free up more time for squeezing in fun activities with my kids year round. Because we only get 18 or so summer with them, right?
And I have a little gift for you, as well — actually, TWO gifts…
1) Right now, you can get a FREE 6-month Google Express membership with the promo code FREETIME. Just click “TRY IT FREE” and redeem your free membership.
2) AND you can also get $15 off your first Google Express order when you use the promo code DCJWDH2R5 at checkout.
