This sweet (and sometimes sassy) girl will turn 11 in just under a month. It seems like just yesterday I was watching her chubby little toddler legs climb the ladder to the spiral slide on our swing set, squealing the entire way down with blond curls streaming out behind her. Forever chasing after her big brothers, and trying to do everything just like them. She was fearless — and she still is.
I know that fifth grade will probably be one of the harder school years she’ll face. As one of the oldest students in her class, her body is already more developed than others, and we’ve already had the daily hygiene discussion, especially with as active as she is in sports. Thankfully, she’s taken the training bras and deodorant in stride — I know I wasn’t quite so compliant at her age.
However, I also know that she’s walking a fine line between childhood and adolescence. Soon she’ll be asking for makeup and such (not just yet, sweetie), but in the meantime, I thought we’d pick up some fun, age appropriate daily essentials at Walmart that will hopefully make this slightly awkward stage a little more special.
Eos Lip Balm in Summer Fruit
We actually discovered Eos Lip Balms a little over a year ago, and we quickly amassed quite a selection of flavors. Her favorite is the Eos Summer Fruit Lip Balm, but I can attest to the fact that there’s really not a bad flavor in the bunch!
Simple Facial Cleansing Wipes
Though her skin is still clear and beautiful, I always try to emphasize how important it is to start taking good care of it early. I purchased some Simple Facial Cleansing Wipes for her to make it easy to include cleansing her face as part of her morning and evening routines.
Nivea Touch of Happiness Body Wash + Body Pouf
She loves fruity, scented body washes, and I can totally get on board with this Nivea Touch of Happiness Body Wash. I love that it cleans and moisturizes at the same time, and I especially love that it comes with the pump, as she has a tendency to use too much product with a squeeze bottle. I also grabbed a bright orange body pouf to complement the body wash.
Secret Invisible Solid in Pasion de Tango
I might not have been so resistant to the idea of wearing deodorant if the current fun, fruity scents had been available when I was little! She helped choose Secret Invisible Solid in Pasion de Tango, a happy, citrusy scent that pairs perfectly with the Nivea body wash.
Michael Mercier Detangling Brush
Getting a brush through her long, thick hair can be a challenge, even for me, so I picked up one of these Michael Mercier Detangling Brushes. It makes detangling wet hair quick, easy and virtually painless!
Scunci No Slip Grip Hair Elastics
We’ve been purchasing these Scunci No Slip Grip Hair Elastics for awhile now. They work great in all types of hair, and they double as a bright bracelet so you always have one close at hand.
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Get Juiced
I’m not ready to turn her loose with makeup yet, but I’m totally fine with any shade of nail polish. She chose Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Get Juiced, a gorgeous punchy pink shade, which fits her personality perfectly. I have to admit, I love it, too, and use it on my toes regularly!
Crest Pro-Health For Me Toothpaste & Colgate Monster High Toothpaste
Brushing your teeth morning and night is a lot more fun with a Colgate Monster High Toothbrush! I picked up a tube of Crest Pro-Health For Me Toothpaste to go along with it, because she still loves the light minty fresh flavor.
Hopefully these products will make her school year just a little more enjoyable, but if nothing else, I’m pretty sure my daughter had a blast just shopping with me. It’s not often that we get to spend much one-on-one time together, being the middle child of five, so this was a special treat for us both.
