Healthy Eating with Target Simply Balanced

Simply Balanced Organic Raisins

A healthy lifestyle is important to my family, and both my husband and I do our best to set a good example for our five children by demonstrating healthy habits for them to model.

In addition, we encourage them to stay active and get involved in sports. All three of my boys play baseball, and my youngest is also really looking forward to trying soccer out this spring. My oldest daughter plays select soccer year round, and my youngest daughter is a competitive gymnast.

As you can imagine, such an active lifestyle requires lots of healthy snacks to keep them energized! I try to offer up homemade treats like these Banana Almond Energy Smoothies and No Bake Peanut Butter Bars whenever possible, but I also make sure to keep plenty of nutritious grab-and-go snacks on hand, as well.

Target Simply Balanced Products

Luckily stores are getting savvy to consumers' demands for products that make eating well easy, like Target's Simply Balanced line. Easily recognized on the shelves by its deep teal packaging, Simply Balanced is a Target store brand comprised of food that meets specific nutritional requirements, including: low sodium and fat, zero trans fat, no hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup, and no synthetic colors, artificial preservatives, flavors or sweeteners.

After doing a little extra research on the line, I discovered that half of the products are currently organic, and three-quarters are free of genetically modified ingredients, with plans to be completely GMO-free by the end of 2014. Pretty impressive!

The Simply Balanced products pictured above are just a small selection of the many products available, but they're a good example of what we've been sampling recently. There are a wide variety of grab-and-go snacks available, but the line goes way beyond just snacks. I can tell you that there hasn't been a single product that we haven't liked so far, but the following are a few of our favorites...

Simply Balanced Organic Fruit Strips

My kids love these Simply Balanced Organic Fruit Strips! Priced at $3.29 for a 10-count box, they already a pretty solid value, but right now there's a $1.25 off printable coupon available that makes them a stellar deal.

Simply Balanced Red Quinoa

I was surprised to find this red quinoa in the Simply Balanced line. We're big fans of quinoa (I make it in my rice cooker), so I was excited to try this variety. It's a little earthier and has a bit more tooth to it than the regular quinoa I usually buy, and the color is beautiful when cooked. At $4.85 per bag, we'll definitely be purchasing it again!

Simply Balanced Organic Raw Wildflower Honey

This Simply Balanced Organic Raw Wildflower Honey caught my eye because you typically don't see raw honey in most grocery stores. Priced at $3.99 for a 12-oz. bottle, this honey is an incredible value!

But what really sold me was the True Source Honey seal on the back of the bottle. True Source permits honey to be tracked from the consumer back through the supply chain to the country of origin and the beekeeper that harvested the honey from the beehive. If only we could get manufacturers on board with this kind of accountability for all products.

Find more information on the Simply Balanced line on Target's website, and be sure to print the money-saving coupons to save on the products you'd like to try!

My daughter is a big fan of the strawberry bites, and dried mangoes!

Oh my gosh, Katie, the Simply Balanced Dried Mangos are amazing! I definitely struggle with portion control when it comes to them… I should have highlighted them in the post, as well, but between me and my daughter, they didn’t last long enough to get an individual shot, lol.

This is news to me! I was so happy to read about the raw honey. It is so hard to find in my area. I received a gift certificate from Target. Now I know what I am going to use it for and I am heading there today to see what Simply Balanced products I can find. Hopefullly I can find the honey and the quinoa!!! Thank you so much for Sharing!
