Bring the water to a gentle boil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir in sugar and whisk until all of the sugar is dissolved. Reduce the temperature, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Allow the solution to cool completely at room temperature. Once it's cooled, you can pour the syrup into a clean container for storage.
Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. If you notice any crystallization forming, you can heat the syrup back up over low heat, whisking occasionally, to reincorporate the sugar crystals.
