As much as I love to cook and bake, there are many nights (more than I’d care to admit), when the LAST thing I want to do is spend an hour in the kitchen chopping, slicing, dicing, sautéing, etc. You know — those nights when your to-do list is a mile long, your kitchen sink is overflowing with dirty dishes, and your nine-year-old is sobbing over his math homework… Have you been there?
Real life is rarely Pinterest-perfect. If it was, I’d have a stash of homemade freezer meals ready and waiting to pop in the oven. But after 12 straight weekends of soccer and football, my meal prep game is at an all-time low. Whomp, whomp, whomp…
But I do happen to have a couple of On-Cor Frozen Lasagnas on hand, which takes a huge weight off my shoulders on nights like this! I can load the dishwasher and wipe down the counters while the oven is preheating. Then while the lasagna is baking, I can throw in a load of laundry, help my youngest with his math homework, and check my email — AND still have enough time to bake a loaf of homemade garlic bread. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
On-Cor has been bringing families together for dinner for more than 70 years, and they just recently enhanced their products and packaging. Now it’s easier than ever to understand the nutrition and ingredients in each entrée. The On-Cor Lasagna with Meat Sauce, in particular, features real Mozzarella cheese and boasts 9 grams of protein per serving, and all entrées have no monosodium glutamate (MSG) added. My kids are thrilled to have lasagna on a weeknight, and I’m delighted any time they’re actually excited to gather at the dinner table. And the homemade garlic bread doesn’t hurt, either…
Easy Homemade Garlic Bread
This garlic bread recipe is super simple (just 5 ingredients, including the bread!) and, more importantly, uber flexible. At its most basic, you just slather some French bread with a garlic butter spread and bake… Three minutes of prep and 12 minutes of baking/broiling later, it’s ready to serve!
But first you have to make the spread, which starts with a stick of softened butter — salted, unsalted, it really makes no difference to me. To this I add minced garlic — from a jar is easiest, but you can definitely use fresh garlic cloves, as well. And then there’s the herbs — fresh parsley is always tasty, but if I don’t have any on hand, I break out my favorite Italian seasoning. Last, but not least, I stir in some grated Parmesan cheese for a bonus pop of flavor.
Slice a large loaf of French bread in half horizontally. Coat each cut side with the garlic butter spread, and place them cut side up on a large rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees (same as the On-Cor Lasagna with Meat Sauce!) for about 10 minutes, then pop the sheet under the broiler on high for 2-3 minutes, until the edges of the bread get toasty and the top of the bread starts to brown. Mmmmm, your kitchen will smell ah-mazing at this point!
And that’s it! Let the garlic bread cool for a minute, then cut it into 1-inch thick slices. It’s definitely best when served immediately, so time it for when your entrée is going to be done cooking.
Life’s demanding enough; your dinner shouldn’t be. On-Cor does the prep work, so you can take care of other to-do’s that need to-doing. For your next family meal, head to the freezer aisle of Meijer or check out the store locator at www.on-cor.com to pick up one of On-Cor’s entrées!
