Pineapple Jalapeno Salsa
Think outside of the salsa box this summer, and serve your guests up a heaping bowl of this amazing pineapple jalapeno salsa at your next cookout! Whoa, hold on just a minute... T
hose of you that are slowly backing away from your screens thinking, "Pineapple salsa? This chick has lost it!" Let me just say to you: TRY IT. I also was a little skeptical of pairing pineapple with tomatoes, but pineapple tomato salsa TOTALLY works.
The fresh sweet pineapple perfectly complements the juicy Roma tomatoes, while the diced orange bell pepper adds some crunch and another pop of color. Combined with some jalapeño peppers, lime juice and zest, and cilantro, you've got an absolute flavor explosion that's irresistible!
My Favorite Tortilla Chips
What's more, this pineapple salsa recipe is incredibly versatile, doing double-duty at cookouts as a refreshing topper for grilled chicken, pork, and fish. But I have to admit I'm a little old school, and I prefer to dive in with some crispy tortilla chips.
Not just any tortilla chips, though... I choose my food battles wisely, and tortilla chips is one of those items where I stand firm. Too much salt is a total turnoff, and I like them light and crispy, yet still sturdy enough to stand up to a chunky salsa like this one. For me, the chip has to be every bit as good as the dip, or what's the point?
Mission Thin & Crispy Tortilla Chips hit all of these requirements and then some! With plenty of crunch and just the right amount of salt, they're one of those "must-have" snacks at every gathering we host. Made with just four simple ingredients, they're tasty enough to eat right out of the bag. But at the same time, they pair perfectly with this pineapple salsa.
How To Make Pineapple Salsa
This pineapple salsa recipe is SUPER simple to make. I mean, it practically makes itself -- if it weren't for all the chopping... Yeah, chopping all of the ingredients does get a bit tedious, but it's definitely worth the effort. Luckily this recipe makes a BIG batch that's perfect for feeding a crowd!
The main thing to keep in mind is you want to keep the pineapple, tomatoes, and peppers roughly the same size dice. About ¼-inch pieces are perfect. I go a little smaller with the red onions and jalapeño peppers, since they're more potent, and then chop the cilantro up very fine. Or eliminate it altogether if you're one of those people that can't stand cilantro, but I happen to loovvveeee it, so the more the merrier!
Pineapple Salsa Recipe Variations
We adore this pineapple jalapeño salsa as is, but you can doctor it up in SO many different ways. Need some inspiration? I've got you covered:
- Grilled Pineapple Salsa -- already have the grill fired up for a cookout? Try grilling your pineapple before dicing it up. This is especially good when you're pairing it with a grilled protein.
- Canned Pineapple Salsa -- are the pineapples at your store looking a little suspect? No problem! You can substitute canned pineapple in a pinch.
- Pineapple Mango Salsa -- add a couple diced mangos to the recipe for a version that's slightly more tropical and absolutely fabulous.
- Pineapple Avocado Salsa -- add a couple diced avocados to change things up. I'm a sucker for anything with avocado in it!
- Pineapple Habanero Salsa -- want even more heat in your salsa? Substitute diced habanero peppers for the jalapenos to kick it up another notch!
Serve a batch of this pineapple salsa with tortilla chips at your next summer BBQ and relax knowing you've got one easy, multipurpose salsa recipe that complements all the components of your meal.
Top Tip
Be sure to taste test your salsa on the tortilla chips of choice before serving! A salsa that seems a little bland on the spoon is often perfect against the backdrop of a salty tortilla chip.

Hi Jan! Unfortunately, I have very limited canning experience, so I can't confidently say whether this recipe can be canned or not.
Linda Betley says
It wasn't as sweet as I had hoped it would be. Perhaps I added more kosher salt than I should have but it's okay.

Pineapple is a great addition to salsa! Perfect party dish for the summer. We made a big batch and I scooped some to the side to enjoy over grilled chicken tomorrow.

Yum! Good call -- the right chip makes it or breaks it. I love a crispy chip, but hate when it just disintegrates into the dip. There's just no recovery from that, lol. I'm definitely going to check out the store locator to find these chips and I love a spicy sweet combo -- excited to try it!
