Avocado Toast Recipe
Is avocado toast passé? Wait, don’t answer that — if it is, I really don’t want to know… I honestly don’t care if it’s in or if it’s out. It’s delicious as a breakfast, lunch, or snack (even dinner on occasion!), and that’s all that really matters to me.
My favorite avocado toast recipe is super-duper simple. In fact, some might even call it downright boring, but it’s easy-peasy to make, and I’ll never get tired of it.
Good Avocado Toast Starts With Amazing Bread
The most important component of really good avocado toast (well, besides a perfectly ripe avocado) is a hearty and flavorful bread. My all-time favorite is Dave’s Killer Bread’s 21 Whole Grains and Seeds. It’s a no-fail way to take any avocado toast recipe to the next level!
21 Whole Grains and Seeds is packed with protein, fiber, and whole grains with no artificial anything. No joke — it has 5g protein, 5g fiber, 250mg Omega-3, and 22g whole grains per slice AND it’s USDA Organic! The seed-coated crust and subtle sweetness make an amazing backdrop for some smashed avocado with a squeeze of lemon juice and sprinkling of salt and pepper. Look for it at a Walmart near you now.
How To Make Avocado Toast
Okay, so you don’t really need a recipe for avocado toast, but on the chance that someone out there wants to know how I make mine, here goes. I lightly toast my bread — Dave’s Killer Bread’s 21 Whole Grains and Seeds, of course. Then I mash up half of a ripe avocado on a plate, leaving it slightly chunky just because I like it that way.
I spread a thick layer of the avocado over my toast, and then give it a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or lime juice over top. Really no preference, just whatever I have on hand is fine. Then I finish it off with a sprinkle of salt and some freshly ground black pepper. See? Totally uncomplicated, but utterly fantastic!
Oh course, if you prefer a more upscale avocado toast, this “recipe” is the perfect base. Avocado toast with egg is a great option — sometimes I’ll just throw a sunny-side up egg on top for a boost of protein. Fresh strawberries are a surprisingly tasty topping! As are cherry tomatoes and cilantro.
