So how many of you are excited about the big Star Wars: The Force Awakens release today?!
I’ll let you in on a little secret — I’m really kind of meh about the whole Star Wars saga… I guess I was just a little too young when the original movies came out, and I never got into the later episodes. Oh, I’ve seen them all over the years, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch them again or anything. KWIM?
My husband, however, had all of the original ships hanging from his childhood bedroom ceiling. And coincidentally, he’s named Luke and his sister is Lea, although they were both born before Star Wars: A New Hope was released. He’s a true Star Wars fan, and my older boys are pretty into it too, so we took the whole family to see The Force Awakens over winter break.
While I wasn’t exactly blown away, I did enjoy the film. I’m not sure what I expected — based on the hype I’d just say… more. It was a little predictable, in my opinion, but I did like the fact that this latest episode had a strong female lead character. As a mom of two preteen girls, I place a lot of importance on this.
All of that to say — of all of the movies, this is the one that I can see myself watching several more times without losing interest.
If you missed it at the theater, you can pick up a copy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens now for far less than the price for four tickets would have cost (times 7 for us, yikes)! Walmart has the lowest price I’ve seen, along with some pretty cool exclusive packaging that includes a free Star Wars Galactic Connexions Trading Disc — which my 8 year old promptly claimed.
And while you’re there, you can pick up the ingredients for a batch of this Star Wars snack mix! Because family movie night is always a little more fun when you have some tasty treats to munch on, especially when they’re this easy to throw together.
My inspiration was the adorable BB-8 droid introduced in this episode. I thought the mini marshmallows drizzled with orange-colored candy melts would be the perfect representation for him. I threw in some Ghirardelli baking chips (to represent the dark side, of course), which left just the graham crackers.
Originally I was going to use a few cups of Golden Grahams cereal, but as I was walking to the back of my Walmart store to grab some heavy cream, I spied these Honey Maid Star Wars Grahams. I guess it was just meant to be!
All three combined make the sweetest Star Wars-inspired s’mores snack mix, perfect for snacking on during a home screening of the Blu-Ray.Print
