I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Twinkies. I received samples and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Twinkies are back, right? A favorite of mine growing up, I always knew the remainder of my school day was going to be good when I found a package of Twinkies tucked into my lunchbox. Even the name just makes you want to smile, doesn’t it?
To celebrate the return of Twinkies and other Hostess favorites, Hostess is publishing a comeback edition of The Twinkies Cookbook! A cookbook filled with recipes using Twinkies? Count me in!
I actually submitted this Twinkies milkshake recipe for inclusion in the cookbook in a contest they were holding throughout July. Whether or not these yummy creamy malted Twinkies milkshakes actually make it into the cookbook remains to be seen, but at the very least I thought I’d share it with you all.
Update 7/14/15: Wow, my recipe totally made the cut, y’all! More details below.
My kids went crazy for this simple Twinkies milkshake recipe, and it’s actually easy enough that they can make it themselves — with a little supervision while running the Blendtec. Just add the ice cream, milk (I prefer to use whole milk), malted milk powder and a Twinkie to the blender container. Process it on the milkshake setting or equivalent on your blender, and that’s it!
You can also add a teaspoon or so of pure vanilla extract depending on the variety of vanilla ice cream you have on hand.
Either way, we like it topped off with whipped cream and a generous amount of confetti sprinkles for added color. Add a fun straw to the glass and enjoy!Print
